The power and beauty of melancholy

Life is a beautiful journey. In the concert, the journey is made with the power of singing, bandoneon and electrified viola da gamba. The instruments are heard in a unique way with the help of electronic effects and improvisations. There is a meditative journey to the core of the beauty of Finnish tango – a journey to the tension of melancholy, where sadness, ecstasy and longing vibrate. The discords of life are also present.

Henrik Sandås is a bandoneon artist whose repertoire includes, in addition to Argentinian tango and tango nuevo, baroque music, new art music and improvisation. His personal, experiential and narrative approach to music has aroused admiration all over Europe and South America.

Gambist Mikko Perkola has performed and recorded as a chamber musician in various parts of Europe and regularly performs with the Gramophone-awarded band Phantasm. Perkola's wide-ranging work includes collaboration with artists from many fields and making music by playing, composing and singing from old music to multimedia and solo performances with an electrified gamba.

Jussi Merikanto, the artistic director of Joroinen Music Days, will perform as the singer. Merikanto has sung as a soloist in the Finnish National Opera since 2009 and has visited e.g. at the Savonlinna Opera Festival for many years in different operas. In addition to her operatic roles, Merikanto has performed in numerous church works and lied recitals in Finland and abroad.

The concert will be held at the Putkisalo manor. Before the concert and during the interval, there is a romantic wine bar and café. You can reserve a table in advance directly from the manor: 050 3405130. After the concert, there is an opportunity to shop in the sheep farm shop of the Putkisalo manor. The doors to the concert open at 2 p.m.

You can combine this concert with a cruise. The ticket office offers a concert + cruise package ticket, which includes a cruise from Savonlinna to Putkisalo, a concert ticket and return transportation to Savonlinna by bus. M/S Katrilli leaves Savonlinna's market square at 11:30. You can enjoy lunch on board (meals are not included in the cruise price). Lunch is requested to be booked in advance from Piia Kinnunen, phone 044 517 3040. The price of lunch, €17.50, includes a starter salad, hot meal and dessert coffee with a small sweet. The cruise is carried out in cooperation with Blue Lake Cruises Oy.

The ship arrives at the Putkisalo manor pier at 2 p.m. It is about one kilometer from the pier to the manor. You can cover the distance on foot, admiring the idyllic country landscape. There is also a ride on a tractor trailer, leaving approx. 300 meters of walking distance. If necessary, a ride will be arranged for the entire trip. We leave for the return trip to Savonlinna at approximately 5:30 p.m. The bus journey takes about half an hour.
