Muukonsaari is a rocky island which is partially covered in a thin layer of soil. The island?s bedrock consists of mica gneiss, as is typical for the area. The island is suitable for hiking, and there is a nature path in the grove to the north of the island that also runs through a protected area. Muukonsaari is also one site in the Saimaa Geopark area where hazels grow.
