Savonlinna Rhubarb Festival

Savonlinna Rhubarb Festival

27.7. 12-16 (cafe open until 18).

Saimaan Maku, Puistokatu 3, Savonlinna

On the 27th July we celebrate the birthday of Savonlinna-born naturalist Erik Laxman (1737-1796). Laxman brought rhubarb to Finland. At the festival, we will taste rhubarb delicacies and hear about Erik Laxman's work as a naturalist in Siberia.

The story of Laxman and rhubarb is told by Finland's best Laxman expert, FL Juhani Heiska, who, in addition to his work as a psychologist, has dedicated his time to collecting and publishing information about Laxman.

Information session Juhani Heiska and the arrival of rhubarb in Finland.

Information session by Juhani Heiska at 12:30 and 14:00.

In the café, we will serve rhubarb delicacies: landscape café pie made from rhubarb, rhubarb-ginger drink and we will taste savory options: rhubarb-vulture tacos and rhubarb salsa with grilled sausage. A refreshing rhubarb-ginger drink is served as a complement to the meal. We also offer rhubarb sparkling wine by the glass.

The local food shop sells Vavesaari Farm's rhubarb sparkling wine (0.75 l and 0.2 l bottles) and strawberry-rhubarb puree (0.33 l). The drinks are non-alcoholic.

The event is organized in collaboration with The International Erik Laxman Society. You can also read more about Laxman on the society's website www.laxman.academy.
