The 'Saimaa sauna' event will be organized in Sulkava on Saturday 8th of June 2024.
The event includes four different saunas:
"Kauppaneuvos Paukku" sauna (Alanteentie 28)
Start your day with a relaxing morning sauna on the ground floor of the former bank. The sauna warms up between 7 and 10 a.m.:
• Men's shift: 7–8.30
• Women's shift: 8.30–10
Sauna hostess Mari Kanninen offers relaxing head massages that combine traditional sauna treatments with modern well-being.
A sauna breakfast is available for purchase at Cafe Alina from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Alanteentie 28)
Ihmekollektiivi's cultural sauna (Alanteentie 18)
The day sauna offers a pleasant sauna experience from 12 to 3 p.m.:
• Women's shift: 12–13.30
• Men's shift: 1:30 p.m.–3 p.m
From the sauna, you can jump directly into the waves of Saimaa. The sauna experience is crowned by Souturadio's music and culture program, which highlights local culture and artists. This program has only been heard once before, which adds to the exclusivity of the event. A non-alcoholic juice-blueberry drink is offered as a refreshment.
The municipal hall's sauna and local food menu (Kauppatie 1)
Afternoon sauna at the municipal hall warms up from 15:00 to 18:00; access to the sauna from the left side of the office)
• Women's turn: 15–16.30
• Men's shift: 4:30 p.m.–6 p.m
The sauna menu designed by the cafe-restaurant Pijoti (Kauppatie 1) is made with ingredients from local producers. The menu focuses on fresh flavors and sauna drinks that complement the sauna experience. Menu and sauna drinks can be purchased separately.
In addition: The kiosk in Alanteen Helme (b. Alanteentie 17) sells sauna drinks and barbecue sauna sausage.
Tiittala manor's Koskenranta smoke sauna and beach sauna (Kirkkotie 140)
The traditional smoke sauna and the manor's beach sauna offer an evening sauna from 18:00 to 21:00:
• Women's shift: 18–19:30 in the smoke sauna, while men in the beach sauna
• Men's shift: 19:30–21:00 in the smoke sauna, while women in the beach sauna.
The saunas emphasize the historical and cultural significance of the Finnish sauna. Saunagoers receive a sauna basket, which contains rhubarb drink or refreshing iced tea made from local ingredients, such as rhubarb or tea from the Wehmaa teahouse. In addition, the basket contains a pamphlet and a small sauna poem or aphorism to complete the sauna experience.
The "Take a sauna in wonder" event offers you the opportunity to experience Finnish sauna culture in a new way. Come and enjoy traditions, local food and culture in a sauna environment. Don't miss this unique opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the best aspects of sauna in Sulkava!
