Saimaa Geopark's natural and cultural site Porrassalmi museum road has been a natural route since prehistoric times. The old Mikkeli-Lappeenranta road, which ran through the Porrassalmi esker ridge, was in winter use in the 16th century. As a summer road, it was cleared during the 17th century. Then the road has led to Brahelinna in Ristiina. There are several valuable cultural sites along the museum road.
