Rastinniemi shore formations

Website

The Rastinniemi recreational area located on the tip of Kyläniemi is an eye-catching part of the Second Salpausselkä’s ice-marginal formation. The area features shoreline marks formed at different times at various elevations – the highest shoreline in Rastinniemi was formed in the late Baltic ice lake stage and is currently 105msl. Below the highest shoreline are some 3-4m high banks at approx. 92msl formed during the Saimaa ice lake stage. In addition there are also lots of banks and beach ridges formed during the Greater Saimaa stage (82-83msl). There is an eye-catching erosion bank up to 20m tall in the western part of the tip of Rastinniemi.
